Eternal Decision

LAF - There isn’t much information about you on the Internet, only short references to Eternal Decision on Wikipedia and your MySpace. In a brief summary what do we need to know about this band? How did you form, in what circumstances, how did you decide what path your career should take, how many releases do you have, etc…?
TT - I would say the fist part of our band met back in 1989 with Joe Chambless (Bass/ Vocals) and myself (Guitar) in high school. We met during a church trip we were both on. We discovered we both had some musical creativity. It was during this trip we became best friends and started playing music. We wrote some pretty silly stuff back then. A couple years later, Joe met Kirk Campbell (Drums) and Dusty Derickson (Guitar), which completed the first Eternal Decision lineup. Dusty played with us for about a year before calling it quits. Kirk brought in Cory Boatright, which was a better fit on guitar for us. This was the Eternal Decision lineup from about 1992 until our last album in 2003. We recorded several demos in the beginning, and ended up recording 3 full length albums.

LAF - You are “classified” as a Christian Metal band. How do you define the spirit of the band and this approach to religion? Is it so important for you to embrace religion in your lyrics?
TT - Everyone in the band is a Christian, weather there is a band or not. It is a personal decision each of us made and naturally it shows in our music. Our lyrics were always a direct reflection of our lives and those around us. Being a Christian doesn’t mean everything is perfect or that we are flawless. We are far from it! I think the difference being is how we deal with those difficult times as well as the great times. It would be a correct classification in labeling us a Christian band.

LAF - Is it Joe or Cory that sounds like James Hetfield?
TT - Joe has the more James Hetfield like voice. But he sounds like that if he’s singing our songs or other artist songs.

LAF - What is/are the reason(s) besides your lead singer (as there are two of them, I don't know if is Joe or Cory) trying to sound like James Hetfield?
TT - I’m not sure. I agree Joe has a similar voice, which is what most people mean when they compare us to Metallica. Sounding like them wasn’t our intention; it’s just how it came out.

LAF - James Hetfield already knows that there’s a band out there with a lead singer with a voice extremely similar to his voice?
TT- I’m sure there a tons of bands with a similar sound to his. And he’s heard it so much that he doesn’t even pay attention anymore.

LAF - Do you have the thought that a lot of your success particularly on Youtube is due to the fact that people confuse your songs with Metallica’s songs?
TT - It has in fact led a lot of people to find Eternal Decision. So that’s cool. This sort of thing has happened for years now

LAF - Why do you have an album leaked on the Internet as being the Demo of Metallica’s new album?
TT - We don’t. Someone does. I heard someone is charging money for it. I don’t know. There are all kinds of crooks out there I guess.

LAF - Do you dream that one day you could open a concert for Metallica?
TT - Not really.

LAF - What was the biggest concert Eternal Decision played at?
TT - At a festival in Illinois called Cornerstone. That was a cool trip.

LAF - What are the next plans for Eternal Decision?
TT - Currently, there are none. We’ll just continue to sell our 3 CD’s on our myspace page.

LAF - Do you want to add something to a Portuguese audience which is maybe the first time that read about Eternal Decision?
TT - For years, there have been some of our songs on the internet that someone put up as Metallica or Megadeth old demo’s and bootleg stuff. Don’t believe any of it. You can only find our music on our myspace page. We have had the chance to sell our cd’s around the world and it still sells today. Feel free to contact me through myspace anytime. God bless.

Eheh. É verdade, tá catita a entrevista. Se o Lars em vez de ter posto um anúncio no Recycler, tivesse ido para uma viagem da Igreja, não havia Metallica para ninguém. Provavelmente, teríamos os Christallica. ;)
